First FAA-approved delivery for Medical Supplies in the US

The first ever Federal Aviation Administration-approved drone delivery of medical supplies brought asthma, high blood pressure and diabetes medications to sick patients at a sprawling rural health clinic in Virginia on Friday July 17th, 2015.

The possible applications of UAS for humanitarian efforts has the ability to deliver much needed supplies to communities that are hard to access in the United States and all over the world. The trip normally takes 90 minutes of driving (on winding roads) to ferry supplies from an Oakwood, VA-based staging area to the Remote Area Clinic in Wise County, VA but can be flown in twenty minutes.

The founder of (Remote Area Medical), stated that “the future of this delivery technology could be tremendous, not only for Remote Area Medical but for relief organizations worldwide.”

Although these flights are still banned throughout the United States by the FAA for safety, their endless applications are particularly inspiring for many different humanitarian leaders and efforts around the nation and the world.
